Location:  At sea, en route to Singapore


Case Summary:  Crewmember complained of chest pain and hand lesions.  Vessel command contemplated deviation and contacted Future Care Physician Advisory services.  Future Care’s physician conduced remote diagnosis and excluded a cardiac condition as the source if the crewman’s illness.  Future Care’s physician concluded treatment and management onboard was sufficient and remote onboard medical management was provided for 10 days until the ship reached port.  Through Future Care’s remote physician diagnosis and treatment the ship’s deviation avoided.


Following examination in Vietnam, the crewmember was released Not Fit For Duty with a medical prescription. Avoided: deviation expenses, exacerbation of condition, liability of illness, and delay in cargo delivery.
