WISTA
Future Care is a Medical Care Management Company servicing the maritime industry exclusively with its "Caring for the Crew" Program. Future Care's mission is to provide the most effective medical treatment for the crew after the onset of the injury or illness within an appropriate time frame according to the ship owner's needs. The company monitors and supports the crewmember throughout the recovery process as well as protects the shipowner with medical legal documentation and cost containment techniques.
Within the rapidly growing marine industry, shipowners and ship managers are suffering from a severe crew shortage. For this reason, it has become a priority for shipowners to provide the best possible medical care for their crew and to provide them with the knowledge that they are being assisted by their employers.
As a woman in the maritime and healthcare industry, I have discovered that a female face is not always easy to find. When I learned about WISTA, I was eager to become an active part of this organization because it targeted my interests. WISTA is not only a vehicle of knowledge and networking for women of all ages and nationalities in the shipping industry but also allows us women to form valuable relationships with each other.
This desire to pursue a career in the shipping industry was triggered by my mother, Ms. Christina DeSimone, CEO and founder of Future Care. My mother is an insightful visionary who saw a strong and compelling need to contain the uncapped personal injury liability costs of medical claims in the International Maritime Industry, as the shipowner is not usually protected and the crewmember is often forgotten. She has taught me that in this world there are no boundaries as far as what a woman is capable of, and as a WISTA member, I will continue to prove that in one of the most male-dominated industries in the world, shipping!
